From April 17 to 18, 2026, the 18th China Entrepreneur Mulan Annual Conference was held in Anji, Zhejiang Province. More than 600 Chinese women entrepreneurs gathered under the theme “She Creates · Beyond Boundaries” to explore how businesses can navigate economic cycles and achieve enduring success in a new era where AI computing power is reshaping the business landscape.
At the conference, we heard thought-provoking insights into business development in the AI era, witnessed the remarkable resilience of women entrepreneurs—from scaling Mount Everest to navigating the challenges of the business world—and attended a series of compelling project presentations.
From the industrial development of mugwort fiber to breakthroughs in cancer immunotherapy drug research, Chinese women entrepreneurs are continuously pushing the boundaries of business with exceptional resilience, systematic thinking, and a forward-looking vision.
As a long-standing observer and connector in the legal services sector, UWIN Consultancy was invited to attend the conference. Amid the discussions and exchanges, we observed a critical question emerging from a broader paradigm shift: As businesses pursue innovation beyond boundaries, how can they build a robust institutional framework to protect themselves against risk? Under extreme stress, where does true organizational resilience come from?
As highlighted in the opening address, the wind may extinguish a candle, but it can make a bonfire burn even brighter. In today’s increasingly complex and rapidly changing business environment, a company’s ability to withstand risk no longer depends solely on innovation in its business model. It increasingly rests on the resilience of its underlying institutional framework—that is, its systematic capabilities in legal compliance, proactive risk identification, and crisis response.
Establishing Legal Risk Management as an Upfront Business Strategy
In an increasingly complex and volatile business environment, a company’s ability to withstand risk can no longer depend solely on innovation in its business model. At this year’s conference, “resilience” emerged as a recurring theme among many speakers.
Women leaders have demonstrated distinctive strengths in systematic thinking, anticipating crises, and creating long-term value. Rather than simply reacting to regulatory red lines, they are often more inclined to foster a sustainable culture of compliance and proactively strengthen the protective moats around their businesses.
For many years, companies have tended to view legal services as a “cost center” or merely a form of “remedial support,” bringing in legal counsel only after a crisis has already emerged. Companies capable of navigating economic cycles, however, have long recognized legal compliance as an integral part of corporate strategy.
When a high-stakes matter threatens the very survival of a company, the choice of legal counsel can have a profound impact on the outcome. One distinction is therefore essential: the legal market is home to a vast number of highly accomplished lawyers, each with expertise in different areas of practice. Lawyers handling routine corporate legal matters play an indispensable role and bring professionalism and dedication to their work. But when a company faces a complex M&A transaction, a major intellectual property dispute, or an unexpected compliance crisis with potentially existential consequences, entrepreneurs need top-tier legal counsel with deep expertise in the specific field and the ability to navigate the most challenging, high-stakes situations.
Consider, for example, an overseas acquisition undertaken by a biopharmaceutical company. Its female founder insisted on engaging a leading international M&A legal team. During due diligence, the team uncovered a significant undisclosed patent dispute involving the target company, enabling the acquirer to avoid potentially systemic risks. In high-stakes situations such as this, professional legal services should be viewed not merely as a cost, but as a strategic investment capable of delivering substantial returns by protecting enterprise value and mitigating critical risks.

Building Institutional Safeguards for Business Succession and AI-Related Risks
One set of figures shared at this year’s conference was particularly thought-provoking: before Zhejiang launched its “Qinglan Project,” only around 20% of the younger generation were willing to take over their family businesses. Following the implementation of the initiative, that figure reportedly rose to approximately 80%.
Over the next decade, China is expected to witness an unprecedented wave of wealth transfer and business succession, potentially one of the largest transitions of corporate ownership and control in modern business history.
Through our consulting work over the years, we have witnessed far too many cases in which inadequate legal preparation led to painful outcomes in business succession.
Encouragingly, a new generation of female successors is demonstrating a more forward-looking approach to legal and governance issues. By systematically restructuring equity ownership, establishing family trusts, setting up compliance committees, and implementing other forward-looking arrangements, they are helping businesses transition from person-dependent governance to rules-based institutional governance.
At the same time, 2026 has been widely regarded across the business community as a “year of certainty” for demonstrating the tangible value of AI.
As artificial intelligence evolves from a technological spectacle into a foundational infrastructure for business, it is also giving rise to legal challenges that are both far-reaching and increasingly complex. As noted during the conference, “The real data engine must remain in our own hands. Training models with proprietary data will become a core source of competitiveness for both companies and industries.” Yet as businesses embrace the opportunities created by AI, they must also confront a new generation of legal risks, ranging from data compliance and privacy to algorithmic governance and regulatory oversight.
In the AI era, proactive legal compliance is no longer optional—it has become a fundamental prerequisite for companies seeking to compete and grow in the marketplace.
Bridging Law and Business: Where Legal Expertise Meets Commercial Insight
Today’s legal services market is characterized by a significant information gap between supply and demand. Entrepreneurs often struggle to identify the legal professionals best suited to their specific needs within a vast and highly specialized market, while outstanding lawyers face an equally difficult challenge in reaching business clients with genuine and significant legal needs.
At UWIN Consultancy, our mission is to empower legal professionals to lead in the global marketplace. We aspire to be the consultancy that understands business best within the legal industry—and understands the legal industry best within the business world. Our core capability and distinctive advantage lie in our ability to identify and connect with leading lawyers in China and around the world, and precisely match their expertise with the companies and entrepreneurs who need it most.
1. Empowering Entrepreneurs: Connecting Them with the Right Expertise at Critical Moments
Companies have vastly different legal service needs depending on their stage of development and the specific challenges they face. UWIN Consultancy’s core value lies in targeted matching and proactive planning, ensuring that businesses have access to the right legal expertise when it matters most.
-
Matching External Counsel for Complex Transactions and Disputes. When companies face cross-border M&A transactions, major commercial litigation, or unexpected regulatory and compliance reviews, their regular in-house legal resources may not always be equipped to handle the extraordinary complexity and pressure involved. Leveraging our global network of lawyers, we identify and connect companies with highly experienced legal professionals who have a proven track record in the relevant practice area, providing access to specialized legal support for critical matters.
-
In-Depth Assessment and Quantification of Corporate Legal Risks. Working alongside external legal experts, we conduct comprehensive compliance due diligence and develop a practical Corporate Legal Risk Map tailored to each company. This service is designed to give management a clearer understanding of potential legal and financial exposures, establish an ongoing risk prevention framework, and support more informed decision-making.
-
Institutional Planning for Family Business Succession. For privately owned and family businesses facing risks related to the transfer of control and preservation of family wealth across generations, we bring in leading trust, estate planning, and wealth succession lawyers. Together, we help companies review and optimize their ownership structures, establish family trusts and internal compliance committees, and build contractual and institutional safeguards to facilitate an orderly and sustainable generational transition.
2. Empowering Lawyers: Connecting with the Right Clients and Maximizing Professional Value
For leading lawyers and law firms, UWIN Consultancy serves as a strategic business partner focused on high-value client development and business conversion. We help lawyers devote more of their time and expertise to delivering exceptional legal services, rather than to the preliminary work of client acquisition.
-
Targeted Connections with High-Value Clients. Rather than relying on broad-based traditional marketing, we systematically assess each lawyer’s track record, representative matters, and areas of expertise, and connect them directly with corporate clients that have clearly defined and significant legal needs. This targeted approach substantially reduces the time, effort, and trial-and-error costs associated with business development.
-
Translating Legal and Compliance Advice into Business Solutions. High-quality legal services should ultimately support business objectives. We help lawyers develop a deeper understanding of entrepreneurs’ underlying commercial goals and financial considerations, and translate sophisticated legal and compliance advice into clear, actionable business solutions that decision-makers can readily understand and implement. This helps improve communication efficiency and increases the likelihood of converting prospective engagements into successful client relationships.
-
Business Collaboration Across Professional Service Networks. As part of our client-matching and service coordination process, we bring together law firms with accounting firms, tax professionals, investment advisors, and other specialist service providers to help lawyers deliver integrated, one-stop solutions to their clients. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, lawyers can expand beyond the traditional boundaries of standalone legal advisory services while creating broader commercial opportunities and greater value for their clients.
Amid the Bamboo Forests, Building a Stronger Foundation for Business
The spirit of “She Creates · Beyond Boundaries” is both inspiring and energizing. Yet behind innovation without boundaries, there must be strong institutional guardrails to provide stability and protection. Like the resilient bamboo that grows throughout Anji’s forests, it is the strength of each clearly defined joint that enables it to withstand wind and rain while continuing to grow upward
UWIN Consultancy is committed to reshaping the business ecosystem of legal services—empowering companies to move forward with confidence, backed by exceptional legal expertise; enabling outstanding lawyers to receive the commercial recognition and rewards their professionalism deserves; and ultimately making law a solid foundation upon which businesses can innovate, create, and thrive.
